The High Country of Western North Carolina has three ski slopes that include snow tubing tubing and two actual tubing locations.  We have ski instructors and snow makers on our staff.  We promise to bring to you some exciting stuff regarding the fun that is to take place right here.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. has expanded to twelve slopes including two terrain parks serviced by one double chairlift, two quad chairlifts, two conveyor lifts (new in 2010) and one handle-pull lift. The base lodge now covers 46,000 square feet, is smoke free, and has complimentary WIFI in the restaurant.

Appalachian Ski Mountain will be Cashless for the 23-24 Season!

To make all onsite transactions faster, safer and smoother for guests, Appalachian Ski Mtn. will be cashless starting Opening Day. Major credit cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay and Appalachian Ski Mountain Gift Cards will be accepted at all point-of-sale locations in the lodge. Don’t have a card or any apps to pay? Nov 22, 2023 – The Appalachian Ice Arena is now Open for Ice Skating on a regular schedule, with sessions daily from 12-2pm, 3-5pm and 7-9pm.

Heading into the 2023-24 winter season skiers and snowboarders visiting Sugar Mountain Resort can expect to experience a smoother and more convenient equipment rental process. In partnership with Wintersteiger, an online equipment rental sign-up system along with newly installed touch screen kiosk stations are expected to streamline the guest’s experience.

Known for its snow making prowess, Sugar Mountain Resort ups-the-ante by adding six new fully automated SMI snow making machines. With the installation of those new snow makers guests can expect to see more wonderful white snow piling up throughout Upper and Lower Flying Mile, on the top of Big Birch, through lower Easy Street, and all over the Ski School Play Yard.

Feeding air to those new SMI machines and to the entire fleet of Sugar’s snowmaking system which covers 125 skiable acres, is a brand new 4,000 CFM compressor. The new compressor complements the four existing compressors.
